CMPR 2020 Sets Records
January 4, 2020 CMPR headed to a new race site in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to sanction the Ice Ovals for the Country Cat Snow Festival. This was a great community event with a lot of support from the Businesses and Chamber. The track was laid out on Big Sauk Lake right in front of the City park. With the weather being mild through December and an early January race the city opened the large city campgrounds to park the racers rigs on land. This worked very well with electricity available at each site and good access to the Hot Pits on the ice. Of course, with this being the first CMPR Ice Ovals at Sauk, some of the residents did not know what to expect. The CMPR drivers put on a great show. All classes were very well attended setting a new driver total for a single day race with 94 registered drivers! CMPR also had its largest turnout of JR drivers as well. A big thank you goes out to the Visit Sauk Centre and Chamber, Pam Borgmann [email protected] and Stacie Michels [email protected] , and all the club volunteers that made this a great race site. CMPR also had Sauk Centre kicked off several of the class sponsored series which included The One Lunger Triple Crown, T&K Trucking 0-300 SM, 340 SM, Scott’s Auto Body 440 SM, Auto Glass professionals IFS 340/440, Sportsman 600, and Prolite. These series are all included in CMPR’s normal 28 classes. CMPR will return to Sauk Centre January 23, 2021.
CMPR’s 2nd race of the season was scheduled for January 17, 2020 in Spicer, MN to kick off a weeklong Winter Festival in their community. Freezing rain turning over into a blizzard force the Spicer group to postpone the race until February 1, 2020. All though not the date the community wanted the weather turned out perfect on February 1, 2020 for the CMPR Ice Ovals! The track and complete infrastructure were in great shape, Thanks to the Spicer group! Once again, the drivers showed up in good numbers setting another CMPR record for registered drivers. The competition was great all day with the F 500’s really stealing the show! Not taking anything away from the other classes. Like starting two rows of 9 for a total of 18 sleds in the Single Cylinder Super Stock class! That was a wild race! CMPR will be heading back to Spicer next season on January 16,2021.
Strathcona Cup 2020 With some last-minute changes CMPR was contacted to officiate the 53 running of the Minnesota famous “Strathcona Cup”. For CMPR this was truly an honor to be part of the 53rd consecutive running of the Cup. Just the history of the track and its officials is very humbling. The Saturday filled the track with some of the most amazing talent in the Midwest. From Single Cylinder to Prolite it all ran in Strathcona! The Strathcona Cup is awarded by points in various races. These classes are extremely competitive, driver and machines must be finely tune and ready to race. One driver mistake or machine break down running for the Cup would only be a hope for 2021. At the end no one did it better than Curtis Peterson for Fargo, ND. Congrats to Curtis Peterson on winning the 53 running of the Strathcona Cup! Another special race that day was the “Dugan Memorial” The race is to honor Dugan Nelson for many years of being a race team owner and Strathcona Cup track supporter and volunteer. This year winner in the JR F 500 “Dugan Memorial” was Ross Olsen of team Vegas. Ross had a clean sweep in all qualifying races and finals for the win! Watch for details of the up coming 2021 and 54th running of the Strathcona Cup!
